New Fine Rates at Lambton County Library

New Fine Rates at Lambton County Library

Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library will implement a new fine policy for overdue materials effective July 1st, 2008.  Overdue books, audio books (tapes/cds), music CDs, and magazines will now be 25 cents per day per item.  The new maximum fine rate for all collections has been increased to $5.00 per item.

Fines that remain unchanged include children’s material at 10 cents/day/item, adult and children’s high demand collection at 50 cents/day/item and videos/DVDs at $1.00/day/item.

“This is the first fine increase in a long while,” says Carol Gardiner, Lambton County Library’s Branch Services Manager.  “Our goal is not to penalize the borrower but to encourage prompt material return and ensure its availability to other members. “

Patrons can renew materials and avoid fines by calling any branch library or by renewing online at www.lclmg.org.  Monies generated from fines go back into the operating budget.

Lambton County Library’s circulation policy also includes the following:

  • Loan periods on print material and audio books are 21 days.  The loan period for interlibrary loan materials is set by the lending library.
  • All other materials, including High Demand Books, are available for a fourteen (14) day loan period.
  • A maximum of three (3) renewals on materials is permitted unless there are holds on the item.  Renewals are not permitted on high demand collection items.  Materials are renewed from the date of renewal and not the due date and can be renewed by person, by telephone or through www.lclmg.org
  • The amount of holds per library card is 40 items.
  • Borrowers are allowed to check out five (5) High demand, ten (10) audio books, five (5) DVDs/videos, ten (10) magazines and 20 McNaughton books at any one time.
  • Borrowers who accrue fines/fees of $15.00 or more are not allowed to borrow additional materials.
  • The borrower is responsible for library material checked out on their library card. Full replacement cost is charged for material which is not returned or lost. Replacement cost is inclusive of the cost of acquiring, cataloguing and processing the material.

Lambton County’s 26 branch libraries provide a variety of FREE services to the public including programming and Internet access.  The online catalogue at www.lclmg.org allows patrons to view over 850,000 in the collection.  Library members are able to access the “User activities” feature which includes alerting services, reserving materials and accessing their account information.   Call your local branch for a pin code today.
