Sarnia, ON – You’ve explored the displays, read the books, seen the plays and heard the music that made 2008 Celebrate! a success. Now hear from some of the writers and performers involved in this event as they discuss the creative process behind the scenes. Discover how they accessed and shared Lambton’s unique oil history through media, ranging from the printed word to music, and multimedia installations.
This FREE panel discussion event is scheduled for Wednesday October 22, 2008 at 7:00p.m. at Sarnia Public Library Theatre, 124 S Christina Street. The program is being sponsored by the Oil Museum of Canada and the Lambton County Library as part of 2008 Celebrate! and Ontario Public Library Week.
Panelists include the following:
Robert More, co-creator of Oil Rush!, the rollicking musical celebration that played to rave revues at Victoria Playhouse where Mr. More is Managing and Artistic Director.
Robert Tremain, Museum Curator for the County of Lambton, has been involved in 2008 Celebrate! festivities. He has served as an archival resource person for several of the panelists.
Noted local author Patricia McGee will discuss the writing of The Story of Fairbank Oil, and Canada’s Tale of Oil and Toil.
Poet and performer Bernie Gilmore will be on hand to talk about songs such as Black Gold and Petrolia. An AV Power Point was created to accompany his music.
Carol Graham is prolific in creating works focused on the oil industry. Her plays include Oil Days, 150 Years of Oil History in 30 Minutes, Spirit Walk, and Oil Baron’s Roll Call. Recently she completed two video presentations.
Bonnie Stevenson’s Ahead of Her Time: the Tale of Boot Jack Mary, has been an instant hit with readers and is now in its second printing. It is based on the local legend of a woman who found gold in places other than the oil wells.
Hope Morritt, author of Rivers of Oil: the North America's Petroleum Industry, is a prolific author comfortable writing in many genres. This is reflected in the readable style she brings to her history of Lambton's oil boom.
