Sarnia, ON – The Sarnia Library is presenting a day devoted to anime or animēshon on Saturday, April 25th 2009 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Anime is a style of animation made in Japan that is known for its large emphasis on visual styles. This will be an opportunity for anime fans to talk with other anime fans and watch anime on the big screen in the theatre for FREE.
The library will be presenting the classic landmark science fiction anime films, “The Wings of Honneamise” at 12 Noon and “Akira” at 3 PM in the Sarnia Library Theatre. Both films are rated AA for Adult Accompaniment due to violence and adult situations. Roger Ebert said of “The Wings of Honneamise” that, “One of the pleasures of the film is simply enjoying Yamaga's visual imagination, as in a montage at the end which shows the planet's suffering and turmoil.” Shorter works like “Mushi Shi” a Japanese fantasy version of the X-Files, and “Planetes” about the lives of astronauts retrieving orbital space junk will also be presented.
There will be a meet and greet reception from 11am to 12pm. Seating is limited; please contact the Reference Department at 519 337-3291 to reserve your seat. The Sarnia Branch of the Lambton County Library is located at 124 Christina Street South, Sarnia, Ontario, one hour northeast of Detroit, Michigan on I-94 and one hour west of London, Ontario on Highway 402.
