Lambton County Library Calendar of Events for November 2009

Wyoming, ON - New preschool sessions begin the week of November 9 at most Lambton libraries.  Tales for Tots is a thirty-minute program designed for children ages one and two and their caregivers. Story Hour is a one-hour program for the three to five year old. Included are songs, stories, fingerplays, activities, and crafts developed to stimulate and create an early interest in reading. Sessions are generally six-weeks in length.  French Story Hour is also offered at the Alvinston, Corunna, Petrolia and Sarnia libraries.  Please contact these libraries for more information.


Electronic Database of the month:  Military and Intelligence.  Although this database is designed to meet the research needs of military personnel, it does include some basic reference materials such as The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia , The World Almanac and Book of Facts.

·         November 3 - Genealogy and Treasures of the Lambton Room  - Lambton Room curator, Laurie McBeth, brings her extensive knowledge of local history and resources to this informative and entertaining talk. Your family tree may be easier to trace than you thought.

·         November 17- Disaster Response Around the World  - "Responding to a disaster is exciting, nerve-wracking, boring, scary, rewarding, heartbreaking, frustrating, sad, tiring and wonderful. It is an amazing adventure even if you get scorpions in your shoes, big snakes in your garden, wild dogs outside your tent and rats in your toilet. " As a member of the Canadian Red Cross, YMCA Peace Award winner, Bonnie Kearns, has been deployed to many disasters, including Ground Zero in New York, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan and Pakistan. This presentation is about adventure, celebrating differences, and following the dream. 

Money Saving Tips for a Great Family Christmas with Pamela Eng - 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 16.  Author of Perpetual Money Machine, Pamela's  methods of achieving financial success enabled her to retire at age 39.
