Remembrance Day Program at Sarnia Library

The 70th Anniversary of World War Two

Sarnia, ON – The Sarnia Library is presenting three short films that document various aspects of World War II at the Library Theatre on Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm.  Admission is free.

Dusk: 1936-March 1940 describes events leading up to the war and Canada's entry; Blitzkrieg: April-November 1940 covers the battles for Norway, France and Britain; and Year of the Siege: September 1940-October 1941 involves the beginning of the Battle of the Atlantic and the lead up to the war in the Pacific," said Jeff Beeler, Reference Librarian.

The three 30 minute films were created by the National Film Board from over 16 million feet of film shot by Canadian, British, American, German and Russian cameramen during the war.  The films will be followed by a discussion.  “This is an opportunity to share information and learn something about how Canada entered World War Two,” said Beeler.

On September 1, 1939 World War Two started with the German invasion of Poland.  The Canadian Parliament voted for Canada to enter the war on September 10th.   This fall marks the 70th Anniversary of World War Two.
