Remembering World War Two on Film - 2010

Remembering World War Two on Film - 2010

Sarnia, ON – The Sarnia Library is presenting three short films that document various aspects of World War II at the Library Theatre on Wednesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m.

·         Ebbtide July to September 1942 - War production and the bombing campaign begin the lowlight of the period being the attack on Dieppe;

·         Turn of the Tide October 1942 to July 1943 - Covers how the war turned for the Western Allies at the battles for Guadalcanal and El Alamein; and

·         Road to Ortona July 1943 to January 1944 - Ortona was Canada's toughest street fight with the troops going from building to building and then room to room.

The three 30 minute films were created by the National Film Board from over 16 million feet of film shot by Canadian, British, American, German and Russian cameramen during the war.  The films will be followed by a discussion.  “This is an opportunity to share information and learn something different about World War Two,” said Jeffrey Beeler, Reference Librarian.

Admission is free; however, the library will accept donations of canned goods and other non perishable items for the Inn of the Good Shepherd Food Bank.  Please call the Reference Department at 519 337-3291 for more information or to register.
