Remembering World War II: The Battle for Hong Kong 2011

Sarnia, ON – To mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Hong Kong, the Sarnia Library is presenting the short film, “Savage Christmas: Hong Kong 1941” at the Library Theatre on Wednesday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m.

"The film depicts the battle for Hong Kong from the Canadian point of view and the subsequent fate of the thousands Canadians who fought there, and their fate after the battle," said Jeff Beeler, Reference Librarian.  "Some of the survivors settled in Sarnia after the war."

It will be followed by a general discussion of Canada’s involvement in the Pacific part of World War Two.  “This will be an opportunity to share information and learn more about Canada’s role in the Pacific War,” said Beeler.

Admission is free; however, the library will accept donations of canned goods and other non perishable items for the Inn of the Good Shepherd Food Bank.  Please call the Reference Department at 519 337-3291 for more information or to register.
